Hello all

We have had a request from Hana to advertise her study to all you forum users:

Volunteers with arthritis wanted for research study

“How do patients with arthritis seek information in online health communities?”

• Are you above 16 years of age?
• Do you have arthritis?
• Do you seek and (or) share information in online forums?
(e.g. Arthritis Care, National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society)

If you answered YES to all these questions, we would love you to get in touch and participate in our study.

The purpose of this study is to explore how patients gather information in online communities to inform decision making.

As a participant, you would have a face-to-face individual interview, lasting approximately 1 1/2 hours.

In appreciation for your time, you will receive a gift voucher.

please contact:

Experiential information processing in online communities among patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Invitation to participate in a study

My name is Hana Ishak and I am a PhD candidate at Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.

I am looking for volunteers to take part in an individual interview.

To be eligible in the study, you must:

• have a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis,
• be aged of above 18 years old,
• have a need for information related to treatment, and
• seek and (or) share information in online communities for rheumatoid arthritis or arthritis, (e.g. online forums provided by National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) or Arthritis Care).

The purpose of this study is to explore how patients gather information in online communities so as to inform decision making.

I am particularly interested in how people gather and make use of information about other peoples’ treatment experiences.

Your data will remain anonymous. Involvement in this study will not affect or influence your usual clinical care.

The interview will take approximately 1 hour and will be conducted at Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.

The interviews will be conducted from April 2010 until October 2010. Suitable date and time can be arranged.

If you are interested, please contact me and I will provide you with further details of the study.

Thank you,
Hana Ishak

Bit too far for me I'm afraid.
I'm wondering why, after it says Rheumatoid Arthritis, does it then say just Arthritis?

YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

I'd love to contribute - but the journey!
If you get to feedback, it goes like this:

1. if i was family-free, i'd do it, but find the travelling a physical strain and the expenses a financial one. I'd have to not to other cherished plans in that month.
2. i would be worrying that health would hold up for the appointment time, would hate to commit to it and then not be able to make it, as going on such a journey would require pretty optimal health
3. but i have a family, and every month i already use up loads of people's good will , and also our budget, to have the children sat while i attend health appointments.

Can it be done by telephone? By webcam? by visit to our houses?
